Amar

Amar came to the garage school in its very first year. However there was so much trouble at home. His father, a mason was a drunkard and fought with his mother often. He would not give any money to her and she struggled to feed the children and send them to school. To ease her difficulties, she arranged the marriage of her 14 year old daughter against her wishes.

The girl was married. The next day, when it was getting dark, a candle was lit in the hut. The girl who was not used to wearing unwieldy saris was walking by and her sari got fire. The thin nylon sari quickly engulfed her in flames. Badly burnt, she was taken to the hospital where she died after 2 weeks.

He was sent to a proper school for class III. He failed three times. Amar used to see rich kids go roller skating on the road in the morning.

He would look at them with longing eyes but who would give a poor child a roller skates? His dream remained a dream until one day The Good Samaritans gave a roller skates and this became his pastime. When he passed class VI, he was asked to be a skating instructor.

He started teaching kids in big schools of Delhi. In the meantime he participated in more competitions and won laurels.

Amar still remains very humble. He loves the teachers and all who have helped him to come up in life.

Mahabali Rai

Mahabali Rai, a twelve-year-old boy, joined the Alaknanda Center on 1994. He had been in a local government school upto 4th class. His brother Sahabali Rai studied in the garage school before him and had known about Jesus.

Mahabali joined in I standard. His father Ramchandran was a mason and his mother Phoolmati was a maid. He has three brothers Govind, Sanjay and Sahabali.

As soon as Mahabali started coming to the school, according to him, he found a completely different and comfortable experience around him. He came to know about Jesus through the teachers. He started believing that Jesus is only the true God and that Jesus died for him and he will forgive all his sins. He started reading the bible to know more about Jesus.

Though Mahabali had some difficulties in his studies, with the kind help of the teachers he picked up the subjects very well. His family members also started encouraging him in his studies.

After he finished first standard, he went to another school to take up an entrance test to join third standard and with faithful prayers he was able to pass the test and join the school. The Good Samaritans took care of his studies by paying his fees, issuing books and giving tuitions to cope up with difficult subjects.

He then took up his tenth standard in open school. As to him, he says, “I was very afraid of the tenth board and at that time Mummyji told me to put all my problems in Jesus and to study with prayers, He will pass me. I did the same and He did make me pass my board. I am very thankful to Jesus and Mummyji”

Mahabali then took up twelfth standard also and passed it successfully. Now he is working as a site supervisor under V/K Constructions.

Mahabali was the first boy to pass out twelfth standard. He will have to get his seat in college. Please pray for his future.
